Expanding Our Partnerships

SIERRA LEONE

Vested in the power of health for national development and individual well-being, Sierra Leone is committed to strengthening its health system so that communities across the country have access to high-quality care where and when they need it. In 2020, the Government of Sierra Leone invited Seed to partner for transformative investments in human resources for health.

Sierra Leone has the highest maternal mortality rate in the world despite a high number of women delivering in health facilities. Supporting this and other urgent health priorities identified by the government, our partnership is focusing on aiding improved quality in reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health care. To better assist the government’s work in this area, Seed embedded a midwifery technical advisor within the MOH while initiating a national needs assessment on midwifery training and preceptorship.

Midwifery students in Sierra Leone sing about why they want to become midwives.

We stand ready to collaborate with and support the government to improve health outcomes across the country.
